Promoting Your Event at NMSU

Marketing and Communaituions has created a list of resources to help our partners across campus promote their events — big and small — to the campus and community.

Due to the large number of events taking place on campus year round, we are generally not able to write and disseminate news releases for each one, but the information in this kit can help you spread the word on campus and to local media. There are many ways people find events to attend, and multiple avenues to reach your audiences. We encourage event planners to survey their attendees about how they learned about a particular event; that kind of information can help everyone promote to their desired audiences even better over time.

As always, we’re here to help communicate the work being done across campus every day. If you have questions about this toolkit, or any other communications questions, don’t hesitate to reach out. You can find us on our staff page and 575-646-3221.

Promoting Events in Hotline

NMSU hotline is a great place to promote you events. Learn more about our submission guidelines and where to submit your event for possible inclusion in hotline.

Advertising on the Feed and Digital Signage

Digital signage is a dynamic and engaging way to communicate event information to the campus community through flat screen HD monitors. All NMSU deparments may utilize the Feed to advertise meetings and events, as long as your event is open to the entire student body. Learn more how to advertise on the Feed and review content guidelines.

Social Media

Using or developing active social media accounts will likely attract those who may be interested in your events. New to social media? Visit our Social Media Guidelines.

Facebook has dedicated events organizing tools, including giving you a rough head count of who might show up, and is used by a lot of people to find and share all kinds of events. Facebook also has self-service advertising that can be used to promote an event and target a particular audience.

To have your event featured on the main @nmsu social media channels then please send us either a graphic, GIF or short form video that is vertically sized at 1920 x 1080 pixels. Be sure to include the date, time and location of the event and make sure all pertinent information is legible. Don’t be afraid to get creative! Don't have graphic design skills? Canva is an excellent online tool that can assist you with creating graphics — no design experience needed.

We may be able to help boost some of your social media efforts, so let us know if you’re trying to make your social advertisements more visible. Reach out to socialmedia@nmsu.edu for more information.
